Myrrha Stanford Smith

Director 1994-2009 (31 productions)

Born and brought up in Brighton, Myrrha studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and in her early acting career, had worked under Tyrone Guthrie in London's West End. She started doing scenic design, became interested in production as a whole and this led to her returning to college to get a teaching degree. She became Assistant Director of the Florence Moore Theatre Studio in Hove, where she directed seasons of repertory and formed a touring company performing Shakespeare productions in Sussex before opening her own drama school in Worthing. When her husband Oliver moved to North Wales to work on the Dinorwig Power Station project, the family settled in Anglesey. It was this move that led to Myrrha discovering the fledgeling Ucheldre Centre and forming the resident theatre company there in 1994. At the age of 82, the first part of her Elizabethan historical trilogy The Great Lie was published and within two years Sea of Troubles and Flights of Angels had completed the set of Nicholas Talbot Adventures.

Trefor Stockwell

Director 2004-2006 (5 productions)

Trefor spent his early career with the armed forces and had tours of duty in Africa, Oman and Northern Ireland before transferring to the Civil Service. An accident at work led to him starting a new career and he attended Bangor University to study English as a mature student. After obtaining his degree he went on to study at post graduate level at the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford upon Avon and it was here that his passion for theatre flowered. On completion of his studies in Stratford, he spent two years acting and directing in a small theatre company in London before returning to Anglesey. He then began a two year tenure with the URC, enabling it to present contemporary works such as Separate Tables by Terence Rattigan, The Erpingham Camp by Joe Orton, and the Welsh historical play Siwan written by Saunders Lewis. He left the URC to study for his Doctorate in Creative Writing at Bangor University and now concentrates on writing prose and poetry with the occasional performance when time allows.
